Arkansas lands North Carolina DE Smith

West Rowan High LB Chris Smith has committed to Arkansas.

Smith, an under-the-radar performer until recently, drew considerable attention at recent camps and combines, where he ran remarkable 40-yard dashes in the 4.5-second range. We say remarkable because Smith is 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds.

He also had offers from Duke, East Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia, and was drawing interest from other area schools.

Smith committed after an unofficial visit to Arkansas over the weekend.

"I'm a Razorback," he told HawgSports.com. “Arkansas had that great balance I was looking for between academics and athletics.”

Smith was a dominant player as a junior, making 28 sacks among his 84 tackles and adding 44 QB hurries while playing defensive end.

The Razorbacks told Smith he would play OLB and DE for the program.

Hah...so the "great balance" he was looking for was all athletics, no academics? That's what you get from the SEC.
