Crest's Wilkins flips from Heels to Wolfpack

Boiling Springs Crest High athlete Reggie Wilkins has switched his commitment from North Carolina to N.C. State.

Wilkins, a three-year starter at QB for the Chargers, will be used at wide receiver by the Wolfpack.

“I wanted to play for (NCSU coach Tom) O’Brien,” Wilkins said in a statement released by Crest football coach Roy Kirby. “I’ve become pretty good friends with this year’s recruits and some of the guys that are already there.”

Wilkins attended Saturday’s come from behind N.C. State victory over the Tar Heels, and liked what he saw in Wolfpack QB Russell Wilson.

“He believes he can have something special with Wilson, both on and off the field,” Kirby said moments ago.

Another factor may be that North Carolina already has a large number of young wide receivers, while N.C. State as fewer.

“State told Reggie he was the No.1 receiver on their board for their Class of 2010,” Kirby said.

Why wouldn't you want to play for the team that has beaten the Tarheels three times in a row? Russell Wilson never has a problem with the Heels and never will. You can't blame Wilkins for flipping to the Pack - he wants to win!

Yeah, state fan, good one. Yall are so happy to go 1-11 as long as that one win is against UNC. I thought the objective in college football was to play in bowl games and have a chance at winning championships? Yeah, TOB can absolutely motivate his team to beat UNC, but just one question...how come he can't get that kind of effort against the other 11 teams on the schedule? Just asking!

Wilkins knows he would never see the playing field with the Heels with the young talent they have at WR. He has a much better chance of playing for a program that has 4 straight losing seasons and was blown out multiple times this year. He probably will never catch a pass from Wilson as he will leave that abysmal program and take the big bucks from MLB. Who could blame him?

Want's to win???? What planet are you on man? You must be stuck in Uranus. The Wolfpeckers have 4 straight losing seasons and have actually gotten worse since O'Brien has arrived. Win?? How about 2-6 in the ACC this year. How about only 3 wins against Division 1 teams. How about 28-49 against the Dookies, 20-52 against BC, 23-43 against Clemson, and 10-38 against VT. Some winners, huh??

Sour Grapes - Lot of "Yeah, buts, and probablys" in the two UNC poster comments. Which to me, says, you deny the facts. Here are the facts.

31-27
41-10
28-27

As for blow outs - nice effort against GTech to start your "National Championship" hunt.

You guys are delusional. UNC is a mid tier ACC football team. State is less than that. Get over yourselves.

I think he actually just wants to play in front of a crowd. That glare from the aluminum makes it tough to see.

Fingers crossed you idiots have to play my beloved USC - The REAL CAROLINA in a bowl game. After chickening out (to pump your out of conference) with cupcakes so Butch could get another raise, would be a great way for the COCKS to end the season.

goheels7 - Give the State fan some love. If you were a State fan, wouldn't you too grasp at any straw you could. The major sports programs at State are in shambles. 4 straight losing seasons in football and they were not even competitive this year. And their basketball program is a joke. You know it kills them to see Carolina win 2 National Championships while they can't even qualify for the NIT.Have some pity on them.

Real Carolina. Heck, you guys aren't even the real USC. LOL

BD can recruit. TOB coaches. One team gets better and one continues to die in the later part of the season. Two Walk-On DBs played against UNC and on Greg Little. UNC has 3 walk-ons total and none dressed for the game. Something is wrong with how BD helps these players evolve.

Carolina dropped South Carolina to play LSU. Real cupcake team you think??? Get your facts straight dude before you make an idiot of yourself.

Wilkins will never see playing time on the field as a freshman like he wants to at EITHER college. Regardless of whether he is the #1 or #10 recruit he STILL doesn't have the size on him yet to play against D1 match-ups as soon as he reaches college...and won't have the size even after a summer of work outs.

As for the flip, it was probably the biggest mistake of his life. Carolina offers more than just a winning team--it offers a lifetime full of prestigious connections with alumni and past players. It also offers one of the BEST educations IN THE NATION, as well as (at the beginning of the year) a ranked football team and brand new facilities.

Wilkins will never receive the same opportunities at State.

Yea I assumed one of you tards' would grasp onto the "Real Carolina" comment. Cause I know you don't want to talk about football. Even if you don't get us - LSU is waiting to pounce on that A$$. HAHAHAHAHAHA! NOTHING you can say, makes me happier than knowing you will end up playing an SEC school soon. CRY ON -

USC? Whats the point in being ignorant enough to mention a team that isn't even a prospect for Wilkins? Go waste someone else's time with that nonsense.

Great coaching job by TOB. 3 straight losing seasons and 2-6 in the ACC this year.TOB coaches his team to getting blown out. If you thing state fans like the job TOB is doing, go to statefansnation.com and see the ripping he is taking from his own fans. I went to the State -Clemson game and the State fans all deserted their team in the 4th quarter. They played in front of a big crowd of Tiger fans rubbing it in.Go Tigers!!!!!

when did a replaced scoreboard become a new facility?

The education and prestige...my roommate is 31- graduated from UNC and still hasn't "landed on his feet." He sells tires for a truck company. It seems his degree in life manangement (i'm not making that up) hasn't held up. Maybe one of you pretigious people can hook him up with all your connections.

Ah yes - tigers fan. Nice output against USC. You made us ALL look look weak. Only cheapened our appearence to bowls. I wouldn't be bragging to loud after Norwood just ripped your whole Offense to shreds. Good luck to Spiller on his heisman. It will be found in a McDonalds Happy Meal.

Mr. Gamecock. South Carolina has a losing record against North Carolina and most other BCS schools in football. Also in 112 years of football, the gamecocks have won exactly one championship back in '69. Only once have they won 10 games. I guess you will just have to live vicariously through the SEC schools that actually have a good football program.f

State, you don't need any help looking weak in any sport.

A Close Friend - you talk in way too many absolutes. So, I am forced to ask this question: Are you Jesus? Cause man, you have all the answers. Just wondering if we are with some higher being. You are the prototype for Carolina fans = arrogant, ungrateful, snob, that believes in the buddy system before hard work. Hopefully, karma catches up to you.

Anonymous said...

"Mr. Gamecock" poster - George Washington? Thanks for the history lessons. However, 7-5 is not a losing record.

Let's be real frank - Do any of you UNC fans truly believe that you could compete in the SEC? By that I mean, have the same record you do now?

If you answer that with a yes, then I am sorry. There is absolutely no way you guys are an compete with our mid-tier - ARK/Burn may even give you guys a run.

So if State looked weak - what did UNC look? Do tell....try to leave out the words - "but, if, maybe, might, possibly."

Carolina fans have a right to be arrogant. Since 2003, they have 2 National Championships in basketball, 3 Final Fours, 3 football bowl games including this year,4 trips to the College World Series, 2 National Championships in Women's Soccer, 2 National Championships in Field Hockey. They finish first every year in the ACC in the Sears Cup All Sports Standings. It is just hard to be humble when you are simply the best. Get used to it!!

Mr. Gamecock - Read the comment over again SLOWLY so even with your USC education you can understand it. It says South Carolina has a losing record against North Carolina. Where did you come up with 7-5???? As far as competing in the SEC, South Carolina has not fared too well.

The only blogger I see using those words is you.

I want to know if there is HONESTLY any State fan who is proud of the results of their football team this year. They were picked to challenge for the championship yet O'Brien led them to a 2-6 record in the ACC and 5-7 overall. Or are you so eat up with jealousy that a win over UNC is all you need to survive.I enjoy seeing UNC beat State which they have over the years by a better than 2-1 margin. But I would never trade 8-4 and a bowl trip for 5-7 just for one game.

Anonymous said...

I guess I am just eat up. Not sure what that means.

Better poll question - how many of you actually attended school at UNC or did your purchase of $250 dollar Jordans qualify as your attendance?

Point is - this kid Reggie Wilkins decommitted from your out of this world school and somehow I am "eat up" with jealousy. Too funny.

Looking back from the begining of the season, I'm disapointed in how the Pack played, but keep in mind, we've know how bad this team was going to be for about a month and a half. We lost 16 scholly players due to injury this season (including our best defensive player before the season even started), had to get major minutes from freshman and walk-ons who probably shouldn't have been seeing the field (see the guy that Greg "Carolina Class" Little planted in the second half), and had a revolving door in our defensive backfield (which every team but Carolina and Maryland was smart enough to exploit). We've known this season was toast, but had this game to look forward to for a while. It lived up to our expectations and we're pumped about it.

I think Wilkins is a great pickup by the Pack, and don't give me that, 'He wouldn't play at Carolina' garbage. You guys would have been happy to have him on your team. The thing that makes it sweet for us is that he backed out of a commitment from you and switched to us. Good for us, bad for you. We're excited, you're putting whatever spin on it you need to tell yourself to feel better. And don't pretend like if it happened the other way around, both sides wouldn't be doing the same thing. I'll admit it, you should too.

But saddly Hope Spring Eternal has become the rally cry of Wolfpack Nation. Hope that changes (sigh) next year

From a Univ. Florida fan watching this battle - it is clear that the State fans have far more humility and respect than their rivals. I did watch the State/UNC game and saw Little act like a jerk. Surprised nothing has been said about it to this point.

Either way, both programs are in good hands. Not really sure what the USC fan is talking about. I agree the SEC is harder, but they haven't exactly played in it either.

Give the kid a break!!! Reg wanted to go to a school that will play their entire season thinking of only one game (what will be their last game most seasons against UNC). And, I heard it through the grapevine that MOO U is considering a change of mascots...I'm hearing the Chick-Fil-A cow is going to be roaming the sidelines at John Deere U next year!!! If you can't go to college...go to State!!!

This is a good pick-up for State. We are desperate for WR's in this and next years class. We had no WR's last year, and now only 2 committed for this year. And we have 5 senior WR next year. That is not good math. Even if we end up with several next year we will be playing with very inexperienced WR's in 2011.

Anonymous said...

As a Tarheel fan, it sure hurts to lose a good prospect like Wilkins. We'll continue to lose the state recruiting battle unless Butch can find a way to beat Tom. Our recent record against State and Virginia are embarrassing!

This verbal commit - decommit stuff is a bunch of crap!

I don't care where this guy or any kid chooses to go to school. Everyone calls you these guys “kids”; but they need to learn to become men. Parents and high school coaches step-up, teach these guys something. Before they “commit” they need to research their decision - make up their mind - commit - AND then have some integrity be men and “honor their word.”

So does verbal commit now mean? I verbally commit to you (you can quit looking elsewhere). Now, since I now have a secured place to go – it means I have the security to look elsewhere for something I like better?

Have some integrity – not only did you go back on your word, but you possibly kept someone else from being offered, because “X” school thought they were full. It’s no wonder that some recruiters come off as used car salesmen ……… HAVE SOME INTEGRITY!

Heels fans are sour and delusional.. Say what you want about our losing seasons (bythe way 6-6 is not losing), but Butch will never get you to this elite status you so anticipate.. Big deal your going to the Tire bowl again, because no one else want to see you play.. If that is the championship you are talking about playing for, you can keep the Golden Tire trophy, oh my bad, it Car Care now so maybe it's the silver sparkplug... Go Pack..

to the last poster, that's what all the state fans said about Mack Brown in the mid 90's-- where was UNC in 97? Also, I thought all my state friends were so funny when they were so cocky after the win. Maybe you guys should go back and look at the stats. UNC dominated in the 1 st half and came out flat in the 2. They let that game go just like they did w/ FSU. And as for the G. Little comments, he has proven he is a great athelete and the only thing he really needs is a qb-- which I expect will change very soon with Renner coming back and Golston having us as his favorite for next year.
Final words, UNC is going in the right direction and no one can tell yet about State b/c of all the injuries. One thing for sure though, if I was a state fan I would hope that Wilson has a crapy baseball season or he will have a tough decision.
