UCLA offers Charlotte Christian's Brown

UCLA has offered a scholarship to Charlotte Christian LB Kelby Brown today, coach Jason Estep said.

Brown is the last of possibly the best trio of LBs at any school in the state to make his decision.

Fellow Charlotte Christian LBs David Durham (Ohio State) and Ty Linton (North Carolina) have already committed.

Brown, who is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, also has offers from—in alphabetical order—Arkansas, Colorado, Duke, East Carolina, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Northwestern, Syracuse and Wisconsin.

Which makes me wonder—had Durham and Linton not committed early, how many offers would these teammates have between them? Over 50 would be a safe guess.

Stan, I know manpower is short, but it would be an interesting feature to see what got these three guys on the national radar -- I assume lotsa camps and combines, which to my mind is both a strength and weakness of the current system.

Burk,
Actually, it wasn't as a group. Durham is moving back to Charlotte this year from Austin, Tex., where he made a splash and committed early to Ohio State. But the camps have a lot to do with it...

Highlight Film's were a key component. Highlight films were given to many college coaches. Combines helped with stats given through scouting services, but hard work and preparation done by these players showed up on the highlight tapes. The High School Coaches at Charlotte Christian worked hard to give these players exposure to the college recruiters through follow up phone calls and mailing their highlight video!
