The North Carolina Shrine Bowl coaches had the fifth and final (invitation only on this one) combine Saturday at Eastern Alamance High in Mebane. I couldn’t get to that one, but several friends made it, including our buddy Don Callahan of Inside Carolina.
Over 100 players were invited to the event, and about 85 showed up, working to secure a spot on the N.C. roster. The players were organized by position and worked out. They did position-oriented drills, one-on-one work (passing and pass rush), and “team” drills (7-on-7 and inside run).
Callahan was particularly impressed with the DBs, 17 of whom showed up, including David Amerson of Greensboro Dudley, Detric Allen of South Stanly and P.J. Clyburn of West Iredell. North Mecklenburg’s Robert Parker also made a splash. --Stan Olson
