Keenan Allen is going west.
The Northern Guilford High safety/wide receiver leaves for the left coast next Tuesday, comes back Sunday, and in between will attend camps at Oregon, California and Oregon State, all of whom have offered him scholarships.
“The plan we’ve got is to go to the camps throughout the summer, then narrow his final group down to five schools,” his dad Scott said today. “When he gets back from this trip, he’ll go to camps at Alabama and Clemson.”
More camps will follow. “We’ve been talking to North Carolina, we’ve been talking to N.C. State,” Scott Allen said. “He has 25 or 30 offers, including almost all of the ACC.”
Keenan, No.4 on our N.C. Prospects List, hasn’t made up his mind yet whether he would prefer to play defense or offense in college. While he is a nationally-ranked safety, he has shown good separation and excellent hands at recent combines.
“At some of the camps, he can play offense the first day and defense the second day,” Scott Allen said.
I asked him about all the attention Keenan has been receiving from the west coast teams, and he laughed.
“I don’t know what it is, but they like him,” Scott said. “Southern Cal wanted us to come to their camp too, but there just wasn’t enough time.” –Stan Olson
