Tar Heels land five-star tackle

James Hurst, a 6-foot-5, 271-pound offensive tackle at Plainfield, Ind., has committed to the University of North Carolina.

Hurst is rated by scout.com as a five-star player, its highest rating. Scout.com has Hurst listed as its No. 3 offensive tackle prospect in the country.

"He is the total package," said Plainfield assistant coach Brent Schwanekamp. "He is in the top 20 academically in his class, he has a tremendous work ethic and he is a great athlete."

Hurst was a national recruit and turned down the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Ohio State, Penn State and Georgia to pick the Tar Heels.

"He is the type of athlete that you could teach him an entirely new sport and in a very short time he'd be pretty good at it," Schwanekamp said. "He is very goal oriented. He set a goal of being a Division I player and he achieved it."

NC State's tackle (Robert Crisp) is a 4 star whereas Carolina's is a 5-star and top 25 player in the entire country regardless of position. While Crisp is a very good player...Hurst is an absolute stud! They are definitely NOT equal in comparison.

Right, because it's all about Stars and it's a proven fact that this kid will be a stud. I'm not saying he won't, but some coverage of the player the Observer dubbed the best in NC would have been nice. I guess that would have been too much to ask though.

Oh there it is...that State inferiority/the media is against us complex raising it's ugly head again. If you all would only spend half as much time focusing on your own team as opposed to obsessing about Carolina your fans and your program wouldn't be so laughable.

Anybody that thinks Crisp is the best player in NC is full of it. All you have to do is go over to rivals.com and look at the Jr Army all-star OL vs DL film. Crisp was absolutely blasted in practically every one on one match up. He looked totally over-matched and overwhelmed. I don't know what this kid will eventually become but at this time he is not in NC's top 5.

Yeah, you got a 5 star, we got a 4 star. It's really tough to get an inferiority complex when the only numbers that matter are 41-10!!!!

Your post proves the exact point of State's complex. You could go 1-10 but as long as the win is against Carolina you're happy. It was that same mindset that caused you all to run off Sendek (best thing that ever happened to him) and now your B-Ball program is a joke with the Kool-Aid man. That's ok, you all keep having mediocre (if that) teams and obsessing about Carolina while we'll be over in Chapel Hill building a Top 10 football program to go with our basketball Nat'l Champions. We really could care less about State and I think that's what State fans hate the most. You all hate Carolina so much but we could care less about you all as our rival is Dook. It really sucks to be irrelevant doesn't it?

Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine.........who care's about "Stars"? The mean absolutly NOTHING. Alabama got the "Greatest" freshmen WR last year, along with other 3, 4, and 5 star players on their team....and were completely SMASHED by Utah?? Some of you put too much into this "Star" thing. Somewhere, there's a defensive linemen who hasn't had that much exposure, that will eat this 5-Star kid up. LOL
