North Carolina has officially—as in on a written letter as opposed to word of mouth—offered Ardrey Kell tight end Drew Owens a scholarship, according to Doug Thomas, the strength and conditioning coach for a number of Knights’ players.
Owens, who is a 6-foot-5, 228-pound junior, also has official offers from South Carolina, East Carolina and Vanderbilt. And he has a verbal offer from Tennessee.
Also, Ardrey Kell junior TB Justus Pickett, the team’s fastest player and a consistent 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, has been officially offered by ECU and Stanford, and verbally by South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Tulane.
Ken Tysiac has covered the ACC in the Raleigh Bureau of The Charlotte Observer since 2003. He spent eight years in South Carolina covering Clemson, first with the Anderson Independent-Mail and later with The (Columbia) State. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1991.
