Tar Heels hitting Charlotte area juniors early

While Clemson has roared out into an early lead with seven commitments for next year’s Class of 2011, North Carolina is also working the current junior group hard.

“They really feel that next year’s in-state class has more talent than (the Class of 2010),” says Don Callahan of InsideCarolina.com. “They’ve already made a bunch of offers across the state.”

UNC has already offered seven juniors—which we’ve reported—in the Charlotte area, most recently WR/DB Jamison Crowder of Monroe. Also on that list are WR K.J. Brent of Marvin Ridge, QB Christian LeMay and LB Kris Frost of Butler, LB Stephone Anthony of Anson Senior, OLB/DE Norkeithus Otis of Gastonia Ashbrook and QB Marquis Williams of Mallard Creek.

But according to Callahan, the Tar Heels have a number of other targets in and around the Queen City who could be receiving offers soon.

They include three more Butler players—DB Mark Bridges and RBs Deion Walker and Jawaun Edwards—along with Otis’ Ashbrook teammate Zeke Bigger, also an OLB/DE-type. Also on North Carolina’s highly-rated watch list are LB Vinnie Sunseri of Marvin Ridge, RB Nyjee Fleming of Independence, WR/DE Kyler Brown of Charlotte Christian and Anson S/WR Brandon Ellerbe.

Ellerbe will a tough one, since he’s one of those seven Clemson commits. But the Tar Heels, who aren’t having a strong current recruiting year, are starting early on 2011.

Where are you getting your information from? If you take the time an look on Scout.com and go to UNC football page you will see more charlotte juniors, like Calvin Hunter from Vance. Guess you have to be a coach with the information then you looking it up for yourself.

The guy I got it from works for Scout as well as InsideCarolina.com.
I figure he knows what he's talking about...

I think the 2010 class for UNC is going to be very good. They have a couple of highly regarded OL and a highly thought of DT; both lines are focal points for this year's class. The other recruits will add valuable depth. Lastly, NSD is not here yet; so, it is hard to judge the class until it is complete.

and to add to what stacy said...as we found out with a few players from the 09 class, cant judge it until they arrive on campus! By the way Stan, what exactly are you basing the not so good 2010 class on? Hopefully not numbers, b/c unless you didnt get the memo they werent going to sign a full class anyhow. I would said it is a pretty solid class based on avg. rating so far

Don Callahan speaks with UNC coaches every day. He probably has as much info as anyone in the recruiting industry when it comes to UNC prospects. btango

Absolutely right about Don, anon. And Stacy, I love seeing somebody actually use his full name for a comment!
Heels haven't had a terrible class, but they've missed out on several big ones. For instance, still haven't gotten a truly bigtime RB, which is much needed. Martin and Farmer could up it considerably if they pick UNC.
They have 19 to give, or maybe more since they lost a couple (Farms and the kid that went to Memphis).

The Heels have a big time RB visting this weekend. It is better to judge a recruiting class after NSD, not before (although I realize news would be boring if all you reported were facts without opinion mixed in).

I think we're watching the slow demise of Coach Davis and UNC football. Even with our D returning, the O fails with Yates at the helm. And if Yates does not return for 2010 as is rumored? Uh-oh.

Blogs are supposed to be facts with opinion mixed in. News stories are supposed to be facts, period. Columns are opinion, hopefully based on facts...

Demise of Coach Davis and UNC Football? You either are an ABC'er or you haven't been keeping up with the program. Coach Davis has more talent in Chapel Hill than anytime since 1997. It was also confirmed a while ago that Yates will be returning for his senior year... that was nothing more than an Internet rumor; However, Renner will push him for playing time.

If blogs is for facts then how about looking up your on information before putting it out. Not trying to be a hard ass. If you go under UNC web page on Scout it shows 2011 recruits with all the names you put out plus more. So how about giving everyone from Charlotte some news coverage.

Lol, I just love the UNC media bias in North Carolina. NC State will have a better class AGAIN next year in North Carolina. Why not talk about that? I was told that TOB couldn't recruit as well as Butch but could out coach him - this by State fans. Now I see that Tom can out coach him AND out recruit him. I just hate all the media spin. I'm dizzy - from the spin. The Pack has beaten UNC three times in a row and what in your minds makes you think that is going to change? "Oh we return our whole defense" - the same defense we have beaten for the last three years. IF and IF Butch does queak out a good year - do you think he will actually stay at Carolina? That is what you need to be talking about. BTW, your offense will be TERRIBLE - AGAIN. Spin on that.

Spin Spin Spin

P.S. Please keep Butch, I like beating him every year.......

Isn't it funny how the lil wolfies make a year out of beating UNC but UNC is only concerned with getting better nationally? Sure beating NC State is part of that but just that only PART of it. If we beat you it is expected not a field rushing, season making event for us. Now if we were to go to and win the ACC Championship........

I wonder what relation, if any, Brandon Ellerbe has to Richmond County/UGA/Baltimore Raven Dannell Ellerbe?
