Sumter High QB, O-lineman drawing attention

Sumter QB Stephen Curtis is gaining notice as he approaches his senior year. Curtis led his team to the Big 16 state championship game last year, throwing for 25 TDs and running for 11 more on the way.

Curtis has the size major schools are looking for at the position; he's 6-3 and 215 pounds. He is ranked No.16 on our SC Top 25 prospects list. He received an early offer from Furman, but since then a number of BCS schools have been taking a closer look, although none have offered yet.

Among those inquiring have been Duke, LSU, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, Oregon, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

Curtis also is a starter on the baseball and basketball teams.

If recruiters head to Sumter to see Curtis, they can also check out OL Marques Pair (6-6 270). Pair had a strong season before tearing cartilage in a knee in the state semifinals. He's an athletic kid, with long arms and quick feet, agile enough to be a standout on the basketball team.

Pair is drawing early interest from Clemson, N.C. State, South Carolina and Maryland, among others.
