At a press conference at his Stamford (Conn.) High School less than an hour ago, LB Khairi Fortt officially announced his choice of PennState over Georgia, his other finalist.
North Carolina had been in his final five with Michigan and Tennessee, but he apparently weeded those three out recently.
“It came down to PennState and Georgia and my visit to Georgia was what was going to determine whether I would go there or not,” he told Scout.com. “I just felt like the atmosphere at PennState, the way the coaches are and the school’s reputation was a great fit for me and my family. It will also be great that they can come down and see some of my games.”
The Tar Heels once again aimed high and missed. They recruited Fortt hard, but maybe he saw Saturday’s game with Virginia…

Things are NOT looking good for UNC's football program, but basketball season is just around the corner. Heel fans should be given a refund from our smoke and mirrors visor wearing coach.
"What's not looking good? Sure this season is not going as planned but theres plenty of talent on the roster heading into the future."
Wait -- are you saying the Heels are again just a young team? LOL! Don't you think maybe the UNC-CH coaching staff turnover coupled poor game time coaching is impacting this season. Good luck waiting until next year. Should have kept Cam.

Oh my goodness. Did you watch the house of horrors from the last two weeks? And if we lose any more lineman, we'll have to put the punter in on the OL. This is disgraceful and NOT the Carolina way!

What is the "Carolina way" exactly? In football? I'll hang up and listen.
And to an above poster who claims a refund from the smoke and mirrors visor wearing coach, if you paid attention Butch told the "fans" the team isn't there yet. He's sold you nothing, the hype came from other media and fans knowing what he was able to do at Miami.
Do you realize he had a losing record at Miami in year 3? He was 5-6. Wouldn't surprise me if the same happened this season at Carolina.
He's the right man for the job, but he can't play O-Line. And he can't help the kids he recruits to play there can't spell there names own names and get into school.
I once read that the only way you can turn a mediocre program around and have it compete for a national title in 3 to 5 years is to cheat. Short-sighted people hung Dean Smith in effigy his third year, and I think everyone is glad he continued to head the program. We have a great coach who is going to win big.
First off, Butch isn't a great COACH. A great recruiter, probably, but being a great COACH is definitely not something he'e ever been accused of. Butch's teams lack an identity because he is the manager and the OC/DC act as the coaches on their side of the ball. Un fortunately for us, Butch took some bad advice and hired a friend who's about as compentent an offensive coach as a three-year old preschooler...only the kid may be able to be more imaginative on offense. This program is going nowhere until we have a new OC.

Fortt was down to PSU and UGA several weeks prior to the UNC/UVA game. When accuracy isn't a reporter's strong suit, it may be best to not make snide comments.
Odd that we have already reached a point in which newspaper columnists don't do their work with the same professionalism that you find with web-only publications.
Ken Tysiac has covered the ACC in the Raleigh Bureau of The Charlotte Observer since 2003. He spent eight years in South Carolina covering Clemson, first with the Anderson Independent-Mail and later with The (Columbia) State. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1991.

Also, never let this bogus newspaper get you down on recruiting. Remember the old saying "never get your recruiting info from a newspaper"
They report what they want and this season its all negative. There are plenty of fish out there to land between now and Feb 15th.

Please discontinue the 80,000,000 million dollar Kenan football expansion project. Sorry Butch. You can't hold us hostage any more. Please leave.
Should have kept Cam? As in Cam Sexton? 8 for 25 in D2 Catawba's loss 40-22 loss Sat. LOL.
