DL commitment huge for UNC

Scout.com recruiting analyst Miller Safrit said the signing of McKeesport (Pa.) High defensive lineman Delvon Simmons, announced minutes ago, is an impressive accomplishment for North Carolina's coaching staff.

Scout.com is among the outlets reporting Simmons' commitment.

"It definitely puts a big stamp of approval, a big cherry on top of the class for this North Carolina class that a lot of people were wondering about," Safrit said.

Safrit was impressed because Simmons never took an official visit to North Carolina and made only an unofficial visit in June. He also said the Tar Heels' 4-3 scheme might have played a role.

How much did they pay this guy? Seriously.. They had a meeting, he never visited, but he agrees to play there - despite being recruited by the big boys like USC. Looks like UNC is still using some of Santa's tricks (that's John Blake aka "Black Santa").

Five-star defensive tackle Delvon Simmons of McKeesport (Pa.) High returned from his official visit to USC, and after meeting with his coach …added a school to his list.
“I can tell you that North Carolina has been added,” McKeesport coach Jim Ward said. “We had a meeting behind closed doors and that is all I can say. The rest stays there.”

This reminds me of the Marvin Austin signing. No one pegged Marvin for UNC. He was strong on FSU up until signing day when he selected UNC.

HATERS!!!! He did make a visit to UNC and the campus, graduation rate and Butch's ability to develop DL's is the reason he chose UNC. He also chose the HEELS b/c they were one of the few that still run a true 4-3. Why don't you go comment on all the big names coming to State....... Oh Wait..........
