Gio Bernard, one of the top running backs in Florida, has committed to the University of North Carolina.
The 5-foot-9, 195-pound runner at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons and averaged close to 10 yards per carry. He helped the school to a top national ranking in 2008.
Bernard had committed to Notre Dame last fall after receiving offers from Alabama, Florida, Miami, Florida State and other schools. He recently decided to reopen his recruitment.
He is ranked a four-star recruit by scout.com and is listed as the No. 59 prospect in Florida by SuperPrep.

CO is on the ball with recruiting this week. (sarcasm intended)
Hopefully, he is as good as hoped for. He missed several games last year with hamstring problems. We needed a good back to replace Jamal Womble. Maybe he'll be even better! Looks like UNC is going to have a decent recruiting year after all. (This addition jumped us another 7 spots in rankings, as if it matters.)
...And we have breaking news: Lane Kiffen is leaving the University of Tennessee for USC! Nice job guys, just a little late on this one! Gio had committed on early Thursday, but somehow the Mustafa Greene commit to State (also late) got priority.
