Another name to watch--David Amerson

One recruiting truth is evident--with all the spring and summer camps and combines for prospects these days, you can't hide talent. And so it is with David Amerson, a safety from Greensboro Dudley high.

I'm writing about Amerson in tomorrow's Observer, and he's an interesting guy. At this time a year ago, football wasn't even on his radar. His football coach, though, saw him jamming a basketball every which way in the high school gym. Maybe it was the shoes, but you'll find out more about that tomorrow. The football coach, Steve Davis, talked him into coming out to play as a junior.

The result? Nine interceptions, and 60 tackles. And by this spring, offers all over the place.

Amerson, now a solid 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, has offers from just about everyone who has been paying attention. He currently lists his three favorites as Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and N.C. State.

“I also like Wake a lot and Duke showed me a lot of interest, and Louisville," he said after turning in a 4.61 40-yard dash over a bumpy grass course. "I talked to a (UNC) Tar Heels coach for the first time Wednesday.”--Stan Olson
