Niles withdraws commitment from N.C. State

Thomas Niles, who was the most highly rated player in the Class of 2011 to have committed to N.C. State, has withdrawn his commitment to the Wolfpack.

Niles, a defensive tackle from Gainesville High in Georgia, now also is considering a scholarship offer from Central Florida. Gainesville coach Bruce Miller said Niles plans to think more about his decision for a few days and perhaps longer, but said Central Florida now is the leading candidate if Niles is going to commit.

Miller said N.C. State didn't do anything wrong in its recruiting, and said Niles just has some things he wants to think about.

"N.C. State kind of came in there and saw him first," Miller said. "And then he started sitting back and saying, 'I'm just trying to make a good decision.' And he wanted to make a good, clean decision, and he kind of backed off things [with N.C. State] for a while."

Not surprising from an 18 year old that is NOW being sought out by other schools

I'm no State fan, but really??? Central FL over State? I guess he really wants FIU and Dade CC

NC State's recruiting is a disaster this year. What is TOB doing? Look over in Chapel Hill to see a recruiting class in the top 10 (8th) and UNC isn't even done.

A 4-5 win season for the Wolpfack and a loss in Chapel Hill could send TOB packing.

Hopefully!!!!!

You're making the right choice. N.C. State and other colleges in N.C. are geared to the highly intellectual. Florida schools are perfect for people who have plenty of physical ability but not much going on upstairs. Good luck in your professional athletic career.

You are correct. Other colleges in N.C. are geared to higher education, but NC State isn't one of them.

You can hate States athletics all you want to, but the school is one of the best in the country. I hate Chapel Hill, but you have to respect their academics. All schools in NC are great deals when considering the $$$ it takes to go there.

www.rivals.com
UNC #29
NCSU #34

I dont see a top ten for anyone in the state.

The top ten comment is regarding the current year (2011), which is based on Scouts rank. Rivals has not come out with a current team ranking, so the rank you provided is from 2010.

All state fans want to do is beat Carolina. As long as TOB does that he is fine.

UNC fans are a washing machine on one cycle..."spin." Their Top 10 football team has narrowly missed the National Championship game year over year. The following year is always met with high media rankings and hype, but failure ensues. With failure, the "buts, ifs, maybes, etc..." flow freely and self righteousness rules the roost into another year of high expectations they will never meet. The last time UNC was somewhat relevant in football was Mack Brown for 1 year. They got kicked in the nuts 12 years ago by FSU, but still are "inches close to winning the whole thing." SPIN, SPIN, SPIN....if, maybe, but, shoulda, woulda, coulda.....

TOB better start believing in the star rating system, because the recruits he has right now with zero stars, just cost him a recruit with 3 stars.

There's no doubt in my mind Niles saw the BS that is committing to State right now and thought - UMMMMMMMM....yea, no thanks.

Tarholes are funny.

Replying to "State is one of the best schools in the country"; not for football it isn't. It's the only ACC school in the state that ranks below the NCAA APR average. NCSU is below average. Good character doesn't appear to be part of the evaluation process for athletics there either.

It is harder to get into NCSU than UNC. The SAT scores of incoming freshman athletes at UNC rank the lowest in the league. Check it out. Many athletes that UNC recruits could not get into NCSU. The belief that UNC is somehow academically better than NCSU is a myth.

1. I'm not a tarhole. 2. You look it up and stop making up "facts." 3. Applicant admission rates for NCSU are 60%, UNC is 34%. I'll help you with the math...that means its more difficult to get into UNC. 4. NCSU has the lowest academic ranking in NC as determined by NCAA standards.

The University of North Carolina’s football program is under investigation by the NCAA.

Looks like a death blow and Butch has been caught cheating. That sucks!

Remember those rumblings from the recruit that later signed with Tenn. about being offered ca$h to play for UNC? Hmmmm...

It really doesn't matter on either school but for sheer football atmosphere Boone or Greenville can show NCSU/UNC/UNCC what stadium energy is.
