McAdoo's decision 'not 100 percent' yet

James McAdoo's coach at Norfolk (Va.) Christian Academy, Michael Allen, shed a bit more light Wednesday on the possibility of early enrollment for McAdoo at North Carolina.

McAdoo is a 6-foot-8 power forward scheduled to graduate in 2011 who has committed to North Carolina. On Tuesday, McAdoo's father, Ronnie, said James is considering graduating early and joining the Tar Heels for the 2010-11 season but declined further comment.

"It's not 100 percent that he is leaving, and it's not 100 percent he's staying," Allen said. "It's just something they're praying about and contemplating and trying to work things out and see where the Lord is leading them."

Allen said the McAdoos haven't told him much yet, other than saying they're considering an early graduation that would require passing summer school classes.

"I know he has two main credit courses he would have to take this summer in summer school," Allen said. "They're exploring some options on how he could possibly do that to get his degree early."

McAdoo won't turn 18 until Jan. 4. He has never "reclassified" in school, so graduating early would put him a year ahead of his class, Allen said.

Getting McAdoo early would improve North Carolina's depth at forward after twins David and Travis Wear unexpectedly transferred to UCLA last month. The Wears' departure had left the Tar Heels with only Tyler Zeller and John Henson on scholarship in the frontcourt.

But Alabama junior Justin Knox, who's 6-foot-9, has announced plans to graduate from the university after this summer and enroll at North Carolina to play his final season of college eligibility for the Tar Heels in 2010-11 under the NCAA's graduate student transfer waiver.

McAdoo would give North Carolina another big body and a highly regarded prospect who seems destined for a future in the NBA. He is rated as the No. 5 prospect overall in the Class of 2011 by scout.com.

Whether he will need to be ranked with a new class soon is a question the family hasn't answered yet.

"It is an option," Allen said. "They're praying about it. And that's really about all we know."

Sounds like he's not smart enuff for us. Good riddance! Go Heels!

Two courses = a year of high school?

WOW! Probably be the online courses that Greg Little had to take to "get in" to UNC.

Interesting...The elitest of UNC say they are the best in academics and best in sports. Tough sell when 2 summer courses online = a year of high school.

Which is it UNC? Best at academics or sports. Sounds to me like best AT CHEATING!

Dumb @$$, it is not Carolina giving him the degree, it is his High School. You don't know, he could have taken additional credits in the earlier years to have enough to graduate. As long as he has the degree and necessary SAT's, etc who cares!!!!

Go Heels

Well, I can only say this is NOT the Carolina way! Unacceptable! Please take the high road Coach Williams and let this child finish high school.

Who cares? UNC-CH will continue its decline to the cellar now that Roy has all that bad Karma he heaped upon himself. Maybe next year's analogy will be towards the Guld Oil Spill and UNC-CH's woes. Go Duke!

Anonymous from 1:40, you must be an idiot. UNC is indeed one of the best academic institutions in the country. In fact, they are always ranked in the top 5 public schools nationally, along with UVA. The ACC in general has great academics outside of FL.

We obviously need to say nothing about their sports history. The fact that there are so many haters speaks for itself. No one hates mediocre teams; the elite are the ones hated. I revel in the fact that so many hate UNC.

GO HEELS!

Calling someone a "dumb @ss" speaks volumes about the character of UNC fans. The later statement of "who cares" insinuates that you really don't mind what happens to the kid as long as he is passed through the system. That speaks an entire encyclopedia about the elitest idealogy that is UNC. Who cares how we do it, to whom we hurt, etc...as long as we win!

Congrats! Your one way vision to victory completely erases the possiblity of this kid getting hurt and never living up to the academic side of UNC.

Do you also revel in the fact that you didn't make the NCAAs with 7 All Americans?

Greg Little couldnt pass his SATs and got in based on his "added curriculum" of his online course to get accepted to UNC. Think what you want about your rank, but that doesn't apply to sports programs and the obvious cheating that goes on.

Elite = non-qualifier in NCAA?

"NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament takes Top 65 teams..." where was your "elite school" team?

BWHAHAHAAHA.

8-5 football is elite?

Lost to NC State for 3rd time in a row. Elite?

Still reveling?

HELMS CHAMPIONSHIP OF 1812. ELITE!

To you fools hating on UNC for having their 2nd off year in hoops over the past 35 years:

Who is your team? Wolfpack? Deacs? Devils? Name one that has more championships, fewer years failing to make the NCAAs, or more wins. You can't, because there isn't one in the state. If UNC is not elite in sports, NO SCHOOL is!

Why is it bad for the kid to graduate early if he has passed all the necessary classes? My senior year in HS was spent taking weight lifting at the HS then picking up classes at the local Juco because there was nothing to take at HS.

You haters are simply grasping for straws trying to find a way to make your own lives seem more relevant! I bet you were the ones in school that got terribly jealous of anyone elses success huh????

UNC BASKETBALL HAS HAD ONLY (1) ONE LOSING SEASON IN OVER 45 YEARS. NAME ANOTHER SCHOOL IN THE ACC THAT HAS AS GOOD A RECORD.

As always, the point is missed. UNC and Duke's time has come and gone. A new power is rising in Raleigh. The Pack is poised to make a run. Make no mistake, N.C. State will soon reign supreme.

Consider the brilliance of Sidney Lowe, combined with the sophistication that is his hallmark. Augmented by legions of loyal supporters - stretching from the towering metropolis of Garner all the way to modern day marvel that is Rocky Moint - the Pack is destined to reclaim its reightful place atop the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Remember 1974.
Remember 1983.
Remember Jimmy V.

Wolfpack, Wolfpack, Wolfpack, ahhh.

How the heck is a kid graduating from HS early an indication that his university of choice is lacking academically? For those of you on here ragging on Carolina and lauding Duke, don't you recall that Duke took an early enrollment student for its basketball team this past year?
Also, before you go singing the praises of what a fine educational facility Duke is, check out this story
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=ap-academicoverachievers
Notice that Duke did not make it, yet Carolina has made it 5 years in a row!

You UNC fans are right. I will simply look over the fact that your major money sports are mediocre at best over the past year, that you aren't desperate in your attempt to get a high schooler to grad. early, or that you signed a grad student from Bama ball who would typically never smell a UNC uniform. You guys are right...you have nothing to worry about - bc you are elite. The recent stats and news is a lie. We should all respect your propensity to excel better than anyone else ever has or possibly might in the future.

Duke beat you guys by 30 in bball. I would hate to see what their students would do to yours in an academic duel. To even try and skew the "smartness scale" with Duke is completely ignorant.

32 points actually...

Anonymous said...

Well UNC's debate team has dominated Duke over the last ten years so....

Anonymous said...

Whatever happened to the investigation at Duke concerning PIggy Myron? Funny how that just remains an "open" investigation when the Rose case was opened and closed within about a year. The Duke case is ten years and counting in the "investigation" and the bottom line is both come down to a player being ineligible so....... Even Corey himself admitted it. What's the hold up????

Anonymous said...

Well Duke was due after being owned at home by UNC for like five years straight! HA!

Anonymous said...

Notice how no one cares about the State fans? HA! They may have a top five recruiting class but until they produce......Well maybe they should tone down the bravado. lol

Anonymous said...

Guaranteed that our top 5 recruiting class outperforms what your 7 All Americans produced last year. The most underperforming group ever in NCAA Athletics.

Take THAT to the bank!

PS...The Wear brother's say "ABANDON SHIP."

even with McAdoo you're team is still McAweak this coming year.
5th or 6th in conference at best.
can't wait for the latest "wait til ladies soccer season" talk stirs up again in chapel hell.

My legally-born birth first-name actually IS "Anonymous"!!

UNC is just using James McAdoo. He's not going to be half the player next year if he goes to UNC that he would be if he stayed in high school another year. Actually, he should stay at Norfolk Christian for his senior year, then go to a post-graduate prep school, spend two years at a junior college, then red-shirt a year at UNC, THEN play two years for the Tar Heels. But he should turn pro before he actually plays any games at all for UNC, right after junior college. Thanks. :)
