McAdoo may enroll early at UNC

James McAdoo, a 6-foot-8 power forward who's currently scheduled to graduate from high school in 2011, is considering enrolling a year early at North Carolina.

"It's something he's considering, and that's about as far as I'll go with it," said Ronnie McAdoo, the player's father. "It's something he's considering, but I don't want to get into any details about it."

McAdoo, who's considered one of the top five players in his class regardless of position, committed to North Carolina in September.

If he graduates from high school and enrolls early, he will be 17 years old when he enters North Carolina. He will turn 18 on Jan. 4 and could be the second player from Virginia in two years to take summer school classes in order to graduate a year early and attend a Triangle ACC school and play men's basketball.

A year ago, Andre Dawkins graduated early from Atlantic Shores Christian Academy in Chesapeake, Va., to enroll at Duke and help the Blue Devils win the NCAA title. He played a reserve role at shooting guard, helping decrease the impact of Duke's loss of Gerald Henderson after his junior season to the NBA draft and Elliot Williams to a transfer.

Like Duke last year, North Carolina is facing unexpected personnel losses. Tar Heel forwards David and Travis Wear surprised coach Roy Williams last month when they decided to transfer; they've since committed to UCLA.

That had left North Carolina with just two true post players on scholarship in Tyler Zeller and John Henson. But the Tar Heels added help in 6-foot-9 Justin Knox, who decided to graduate early from Alabama and enroll as a grad student at North Carolina for the one year of eligibility he has remaining.

Surprise surprise! Roy must be desperate. So how exactly can a high school JUNIOR graduate early and enroll at UNC-CH? Looks like more shady dealings courtesy of Kerliner College...

Yeah.......Duke and Carolina have a great history of shady dealings....

.... and very low graduation rates

CHEATERS!!!!

Put down the haterade everyone. Carolina B-ball 4 year grad rate is 80%. Duke's is around 89%. Does not take into account those that come back after leaving to earn their degree. If you want to hate on an ACC school that has a low graduation rate, then hate on the Terps.

It should also be noted that it's not at all uncommon for a high school student to be within 2-3 credits of graduation upon completion of the junior year. I've taught seniors for years, seen those who finished by mid-year. Add in summer school and online courses, and high school can be finished in 3 years. In fact, many states have programs that encourage accelerated study. This is no big deal.

I challenge any of you to find a cleaner program. If you want to cry foul, get some evidence and bring it on. Otherwise, let it go....

It just never amazes me of how sleezy this stuff gets. Roy knows he cannot have another down year.

The NCAA has to get their arms around this stuff. Just completely amazing how deeply "involved" UNC is to ensure they win in bball. Would rather ruin a kids high school experience and education in trade for winning. Win at all cost...no matter who it cost. The kid, ultimately will suffer.

Anon at 5:30 - you have GOT to be kidding me. Last year you had 4 starters living in over 300k homes. The Wear brother's apparently left due to not being "equal in terms of treatment." The mention Lawson that MJ called him to help sway him to UNC...

UNC is far from classy, clean, or in line. It's whatever they can do to sweep it all under the rug in trade for winning.

What's curious is that a few weeks ago, McAdoo was 100% that he didn't want to do this b/c of prom, being a senior, McDAA, USA ball, etc. I am betting he is getting a ton of pressure right now from Roy to skip all of that.

um, do any of you haters realize that dook had a player (Dawkins) do the very same thing this time last year? If he wants to come and obviously assuming he has the credits to do it, then good for him.

The observer is always trying to compare unc to duke.Notice when there is a chance to say something good about duke, unc is always mentioned as doing the same. The c/o is oozing with green envy!! Dawkins enrolls early, gets playing time, and helps win a national championship.....so let's write a story about a future unc player.HAHA.

Anon at 5:42: Prove it. Are you repeating things you read in online chat rooms? Do you really think that a program as high-profile as UNC could cheat and house kids in $300k homes without some reporter somewhere (with intentions like yours) taking notice?

YOU have got to be kidding. Get some facts and evidence and bring it on - not chat room fluff...

Ever wonder why Reggie Bush settled his civil suit? UNC is the USC on the east coast. As a high school QB I was told that classes would be "taken care of" if I committed to UNC. That was under Mack Brown. This happens in all big time programs. Stay tuned to USC and Uconn programs. 3rd parties rule this world. Your idea that sports are clean is as delusional as it is ignorant.

Here's a better question...does anyone really care whether or not these colleges are helping these kids? Hell, they should be if you ask me. They make so much money off of all the kids in NCAA athletics that it's only fair to give a little something back to the families that put the time, money, effort and support into their children to be good enough athletically and academically to garner scholarship offers from such great schools as Carolina and Dook! Recruiting violations occur from as early as youth sports to AAU to high school to college and even the professional ranks at times. This is life...get over yourselves already!

Whatever happened to the investigation at Duke concerning PIggy Myron? Funny how that just remains an "open" investigation when the Rose case was opened and closed within about a year. The Duke case is ten years and counting in the "investigation" and the bottom line is both come down to a player being ineligible so....... Even Corey himself admitted it. What's the hold up????

I agree with you that it is not at all uncommon for a high school student to be within 2-3 credits of graduation upon completion of the junior year.......2 year Degree | online masters degrees | masters degrees
